First Tooth

Last night we lost a little bit more of our "baby".  Sadi lost her first tooth (with a little assistance from Daddy).
I can't believe how fast time goes.  It was less than a year ago that Chase lost his first tooth.  She is catching up fast.  She was excited to find this morning the tooth fairy had flown in and left her 2 gold dollars!!
Another day, another milestone.  I'm glad I didn't miss this one.

S.W.A.T.....I think NOT.

Yesterday was a lock down drill at the schools in our area.  My kids did not attend.  Let me explain why...last Thursday Sadi came home and told me we needed to talk about something serious (and believe me she was serious).  She proceeded to tell me about what she had learned that day at school.  She proceeded to tell me about a boy who went and shot his mom and then went to school and shot a whole class of Kindergartners.  The most disturbing part....the teacher told them all of this graphic information to "inform" them.  AWESOME.  We purposely did NOT tell our kids about this horrific event because there was simply no need.  I am all for following rules and running drills but when it comes to this kind of "information" it simply was not necessary.  When our concerns were voiced to the school there really was no assurance that this drill was going to help not scare.  We were told that the S.W.A.T team was in charge and that they wanted to shoot off blanks but they were not allowing it, but really weren't sure how the drill was going to be run.  WHAT?!  Can you really look at these to innocent faces and tell me that they needed to be exposed to that?
Call me an overprotective parent, I am okay with that title.  I'm just not sure why I have to sign a consent form for my kids to watch a PG movie but it is OK to have such graphic details "taught" at school.  I am once again reminded that some of the most educated people can be ridiculously stupid.

Student of the Week

On Monday it was back to school for the kids.  It was REALLY hard getting up early again and getting back into the routine of things.  Luckily there was one of us who was eager to get up and sooo excited for the first week back at school.  Shockingly it was this one...
All winter break Sadi had been excited to get back to school because she was chosen to be the star Student of the week!  She got to complete a poster about herself like hobbies, favorite things, and things she wants to do when she grows up.  She also got to choose three things to share with the class about herself.  She chose her beloved dog "Ruff Ruff", her ballet shoes (so she can show the class the positions in ballet), and we also chose chocolate because that is definitely one of Sadi's favorite things (of course we sent some to share).
She has enjoyed all the "perks" this week of being student of the week.  She gets to be first in line all week, first one out on the playground, run all the errands to the office, lead the class in daily calendar, and she also gets a huge banner above her desk with an arrow pointing to her seat that says  Student of the week...kinda a big deal in Kindergarten.  I love that she has such a great teacher that makes school so much fun.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Another year over, and a new one just begun!! Welcome...

It is really hard for me to get into New Year's Eve for some reason...just seems so anti-climatic.  But I do try to make it fun for the kids.  This year I made "time" bags.  At each hour of the evening we opened a new bag that had a special surprise or goodies for us to enjoy.
The kids really seemed to enjoy this.  Some of the surprises included a movie to watch,
and some yummy treats to go with the movie!
I also included a look back at 2012 and a look forward to 2013 survey that turned out really cute and I will save them so we can pull them out next year and read them...this is probably my favorite part of New Years (reading last year's predictions). I also had a bag with our "bubbly" (sprite), some party makers and poppers that we went and threw in the street at almost 12...sorry neighbors. On the up side we threw them all very quickly because it was FREEZING outside!! Daddy had to work, but made it home just before the ball dropped (literally minutes) to celebrate with us.
We hope 2013 is as good as last year...or maybe even a bit better!!
