Letting go...is hard!

Day 2 of Kindergarten:
Chase insisted on riding the bus to school, really he wanted to ride yesterday but I think he let me take him just for my sake. It has happened I am one of those crazy overprotective Mommy's!! But he is only 4!! He has to ride with kids that are in 5th grade, it is scary! So, reluctantly I put him on the bus, rushed to the truck and raced to the school. I had to make sure he knew where he was going right? And what crazy Mommy doesn't take a picture when he gets off the bus? So here I was waiting for him to get off.... He was SO mad at me!! He saw me and yelled "Mommmm why are you here?!" I quickly apologized and told him I just wanted to make sure he knew where to go. I told him to walk ahead and I would just follow from a distance. He walked quickly ahead, he stepped off the curb by a bus....panic! I yelled to stay on the sidewalk. I knew as soon as I did I should have shut my mouth. The tears came, and then..."I forgot where to go". Although he won't admit it, he needed me. I showed him where to go and then I left. Letting go is harder than I thought. Tomorrow I am enlisting Daddy for a covert operation, Mission: follow bus and do not be seen!! He did have a great day and I had to add this because it made me laugh. He told me if they get their clip moved down to black they have to go meet with the "prisoner" (principal), how scary is that to a Kindergartner? Funny stuff!

Hi ho.....It's off to school we go!

It happened the day finally came....first day of Kindergarten, and High school!! Let me tell you how bizarre it is to have orientation for these two.....VERY DIFFERENT!! Talking about off campus lunch, and please send an extra pair of clothes for your child to name a few. Chase has been dying for this day to come, and Kelsey has been dreading every day that brought her closer. I bought a few special things for each of them and gave them to them last night. Chase got a special book: The night before Kindergarten. He absolutely loved it!! He was so excited for school he came in at 2 a.m. this morning!!Finally after waiting, and waiting it was time to put on the backpack!! (I don't know how many times I told him to take it off because it was too early). He was pumped!! He did allow me to drive him, but assured me he does not need my assistance to class anymore and will be riding the bus tomorrow..yikes!! We made it to class, found his seat and spent a few minutes there before giving him a kiss and saying our goodbye's. He teared up a little which made me sad, but quickly wiped them off as his teacher came by (he told me after school he was afraid the teacher was going to be mad at him if he cried)...too sweet! He had a great first day. When I asked him what he learned today, he said criss cross applesauce, and the letters of the day. What were the letters of the day?...."ummm I forgot!"Kelsey started High school today, she is a freshman. Because she is in leadership she was required to be to school early, and wear the school colors....getting up earlier than she HAD to and not get to wear her new school clothes, let's just say she was NOT super stoked! I was able to find her some cute dust devil (school mascot) clothes so that made it a bit more exciting. I also stuck a few surprises in her backpack so I hope that makes her smile. I can't believe we are here already!

She's 3!!!

It happened, my baby turned 3!! I cannot believe it! Yesterday was Sadi's third birthday, where has the time gone? Each birthday I try to pick a theme for the day (just to make decorating and such much easier). This was a no brainer for Sadi, she is in love with The little mermaid right now and watches that movie almost everyday and has been asking for a beach party. So, we woke up and headed to the lake (Tahoe). It was sooo beautiful, I could not asked for a more gorgeous day. We spent all day at the lake and I was kind of sad we had to leave, but we needed to get home to party! We got home later than I had planned so the night was a bit rushed. I had planned a special dinner with all of Sadi's favorite foods (just worded a little different). I had made up these menus for dinner:
Hard to see, but it read: Ariel's Grotto Menu: King Triton's Cheesy shells (Kraft shells and cheese), Coral dippers (Taquitos) served with Sebastian or Flounder dip (salsa and sour cream), Fresh sea berries (strawberries and grapes), and for a drink, Ocean water surprise (Sprite) served with a free sea creature (gummy fish as a garnish).
Sadi loved ordering off of her own menu. Of course she chose everything on the menu! It was delicious!
After dinner it was time to play a few games. First up was "Sink or Swim". I made everyone a mermaid tail with just a garbage bag tied up with duct tape. What good sports!
The object of the game was to swim (hop) from one end of the yard to the other to land to become human and get their legs just like Ariel. Can you tell the Denning gene kicked in and everyone was in full competition. This was actually hilarious to watch.

The cutest little mermaid swimming in the sea:
Next game was "Flounders fish find". I had goldfish crackers hidden in a big bowl of pasta shells and they had to dig out 3 of Flounders friends using only a dingle hopper (fork).
Game 3: "Giving Ariel her voice back". I had turned the living room into a sort of underwater
sea scape, with seaweed, coral and bubbles everywhere.
This was just merely a spin on pin the tail on the donkey but using Ariel's necklace instead. Chase was so sure he was going to win this one.
But he miscalculated what a cheater his little sister was.....she got it in the exact right spot....hmmmm. After games it was time to open presents!! Sadi had no idea she was getting presents she was thrilled! She had so much fun opening cards from family far away,
and was super excited when she opened this card from Grandma and Grandpa Smith and yelled "I got three thousand dollars!!". That was hilarious, I have no idea where she came up with that amount...it was priceless! She got lots of fun things: A couple new princess figurines to go with her collection, a matching game, princess stories movie, a new Pinkalicious book (Pinkalicious and the pink drink), and a new baby princess from Grandma and Grandpa Denning. She was thrilled!
Finally, cake time!!! She has been talking about her cake forever.....it is the only thing she asked for her birthday. It turned out perfect!
Showing everyone how old she is....she has to do everything different. Who else do you know shows the number 3 like this? Making a wish.......
I didn't ask what she wished for, I'm sure I don't want to know! It was bitter sweet saying goodbye to 2 but I am excited for what year 3 has in store!!

Pretty in Pink...

After Sadi had asked for the millionth time to get "pretties" in her ears and many, many examinations of my ears (she wanted to see the holes in my ears), Matt and I decided for her birthday we would let her get her ears pierced. Well, Aunt Susan and her kids were in town we decided it would be fun to all take her. She was telling everyone how excited she was she was getting 2 earrings! I won't lie, there were some tears....
But, not many and she was happy to show her new pink earrings to everyone. And she loves looking at herself in the mirror with her new "pretties".
Her retelling the story of how they "cut holes in her ears" is hilarious!! She loves them and looks so grown up!

Disneyland!

We spent 4 days in Disneyland with Chase and Sadi (Kyle was busy doing football and Kelsey was still partying in Utah). It was sooo much fun and sooo tiring! Day 1: These two were ready to ride some rides!!! We spent lots of time in line for rides, Sadi wanted Daddy to dance with her all day! (Just like Snow White's prince).
Chase really got into the rides this year, here he is yelling at Zurg on Buzz Lightyears astro blaster ride. Some favorites this year for Chase:
1. Splash Mountain
2. Grizzly river run
3. Buzz Lightyear astro blasters
4. Pirates of the Caribbean
5. Soaring over California.
I know you have all heard the story of Chase's worst ride so I won't retell it, for those of you who haven't Matt tricked him into going on the "elevator of fun" a.k.a. the tower of terror. Let's just say he didn't have fun and I don't think he will be forgiving Daddy anytime soon! Here they are on Monsters Inc. ride, it is the cutest ride and it was perfect because they had just finished watching this movie on the way down. Some of Sadi's favorite rides this year were:
1. Small world
2. Teacups
3. Autotopia(she loved driving crazy!)
4. Dumbo
5. Snow White
We also ran into some Characters! Chase was thrilled to see Buzz Lightyear! Our cute little princess Sadi was sooo excited to see Sleeping Beauty, she was actually the only princess we saw while in the park. And while waiting to ride Monsters, we actually ran into Sully! Chase was excited but Sadi was very apprehensive of those big claws!Sadi insisted we get a picture of "her" castle, it was dark by the time we actually made it to the front of it.
It is such a magical place for everyone! We had the best time and look forward to going again in the future!

Vacation...Day 1!

We just returned from a week long vacation to Southern California...it was a BLAST!!! We had so much fun we came home literally exhausted! Day one of vacation was actually Matt's birthday. We started the day at his parents apartment and then took off for a day of fun!! We spent most of the day at the pier by their apartment. The kids had a blast looking at the ocean and all the fish and creepy crawlies they sell there.
Grandma and Uncle David came along which made the day all that more special. We walked on the pier and then decided to eat lunch...oddly enough no one had fish for lunch...pizza and Chinese is what everyone ended up ordering. We then let the kids play down on the beach which I knew where this was heading because of course I had no swimsuits!! Chase was content for a few minutes finding shells!
Of course the warnings were not heard..."I promise I won't get wet Mom", can you see him inching backwards his shorts already half wet, with a sneaky smile on his face. Sadi was happy as a clam to dig in the sand with her bucket.
We drug the wet kids off the beach for some birthday shopping and then it was time to meet Grandpa for dinner. Matt chose Ruby's diner for dinner. It is the cutest little old time burger joint with the best burgers!! He even got a special sundae surprise!
If that wasn't enough dessert, we headed back to Grandma's and she had made a very special ice-cream cake for Matt just like he used to have as a kid. He was sooo happy!! He has always talked about how yummy his cake was as a kid, and I must say it was delicious!!
Not sure how we decided on 4 candles, I guess to keep you guessing how young he is! Happy Birthday sweetie!!
